FeedNetback Workshop 2009, Venice, Italy

The European Project FeedNetback ( is organising its Annual Workshop on the 23rd of September 2009, in Venice, Italy in conjunction with the IFAC Workshop on Estimation and Control of Networked Systems NecSys'09 ( The FeedNetback project aims to close the control loop over wireless networks by deriving and applying a co-design framework that allows the integration of communication, control, computation and energy management aspects in a holistic way. To demonstrate the potential and limitations of the new technology, FeedNetback applies it on two industrial test cases of realistic complexity and scale: underwater inspection systems based on fleets of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), and surveillance systems using a network of smart cameras. The control component is essential in both test cases as they require cooperation of distributed objects to achieve a common goal. The workshop aims to establish a dynamic annual forum for the latest advances of feedback techniques in modern control systems. It will be an opportunity to hear about the current state of the art in addressing complexity, co-design and energy efficiency from leading academics from Europe, USA and Australia as well as pioneering industry users of related technologies and applications. The day's programme features a panel to discuss uptake of the technology in diverse application domains such as industrial automation, automotive or aerospace and the opportunities to address these. The agenda and registration details can be found at
