Constrained Control of A Class of Nonlinear Systems: FeedbackLinearization and Model Predictive Control

Abstract:

As an efficient way to control nonlinear systems subject to constraints, a combined approach consisting of feedback linearization (FL) and model predictive control (MPC) is introduced. Since this method generally leads to an optimization problem subject to nonlinear state dependent constraints, different iterative, as well as approximate implementation alternatives are discussed. Stability properties of the MPC FL scheme are analyzed using an infinite horizon formulation. Performance characteristics, as well as the efficiency of various implementation schemes are demonstrated on two test plants.
