CPC I - CPC V: 20 Years of Process Control Research

Abstract:

Data on process control research, publications, and funding are analyzed and related to statistics of overall research funding for chemical engineering, industrial investments in control and instrumentation, and the number of chemical engineering graduates. The two- to threefold increase in activity over the last two decades is somewhat larger than that in chemical engineering as a whole but can be justified by the expanded role of ≥process operations≤ for the chemical process industries. Industry is the main funding source. The control of nonlinear systems, process monitoring and diagnostics, model predictive control, and identification attracted many researchers during the last decade and continues to have future potential.
