Abstract:

System identification is often the first step to successful simulation, prediction, and control. Nowadays, due to the existence of precise theory and excellent software-tools, identification of linear systems is no longer very difficult. On the other hand, very little is known about identification of nonlinear systems. The goal of this semester project is the parameter identification of a practical mechanical system (double pendulum), using a new method proposed by Astolfi, Milek, Kraus (1996). The method should be tested first in simulations, and then on measured data.
