Abstract:

Control systems are composed of many parts that may have their own computers (real-time processing, control, visualization etc.). For the teaching of such systems, it is important to have small computer networks available. An easy way to get such networks is to link existing workstations, laptops and handheld devices together. Systems that are composed in this way reflect today’s industrial reality, where specialized computers in the field are connected to standard (Windows-) workstations in the control rooms. By adding simple mobile robots controlled by handheld computers or laptops, an interesting learning environment for students can be built at limited cost.
