A Safe and Modular Platform for Control System Applications in Clinical Anaesthesia

Abstract:

Clinical application of control systems showed safety and functionality limits on a former platform. Therefore a new platform was designed incorporating current and future requirements with special emphasis to safety issues. Seamless integration of breathing circuit, gas dosing system, patient monitoring (ventilation, haemodynamic, gas, and others) and the controller computer system (industrial grade target-host system) was mandatory. Easy extension with additional sensors, actuators, control-loops and supervisor functions were required without causing any major changes to existing hard- and software structures.
