Abstract:

Of the total energy consumed in Switzerland up to 40% are spent for maintaining a proper indoor climate. Most heating ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems employed today do not make use of state-of-the-art IT-technologies. The aim of this study is to show how a combination of distributed control schemes together with modern information technology can lead to an improvement in both indoor-climate comfort and energy efficiency. Focusing on two application projects we illustrate that wireless sensor networks can play an important role in obtaining these improvements.
