High-speed FPGA implementation of observers and explicit model predictive controllers

Abstract:

An FPGA implementation of a control scheme comprising an observer and an explicit model predictive controller is presented for the buck DC-DC converter. The proposed control scheme features high-dynamic performance, offset free control, intrinsic current and duty cycle limitations. It is suitable for high-sampling/switching frequency operation. Delay and lag issues related to high frequency implementations are addressed. Proposed concepts are validated experimentally by synthesizing a controller rated 2.5\,MHz sampling frequency for a buck DC-DC converter.
