Abstract:

The three tank system has been proposed as a benchmark system for fault detection and isolation, as well as for reconfigurable control. The system exhibits typical characteristics of a constrained hybrid system and has been proven useful as a test environment for algorithms concerning state estimation, control or identification of hybrid systems. The purpose of this report is twofold: First, we describe the experimental set-up at the automatic control laboratory of ETH Zuerich. We give an overview of the system components and a detailed quantification of the parameters. We describe the software tools, that have been used or written for the operation of the system, and that can be used as templates for further experiments. In several sections of the text we refer directly to the data files and the execution files, that were used to gather the measurements. As a user manual, this document contains the amount of information required for understanding and running the system. Secondly, we show several applications of analysis and synthesis algorithms, that are subject of ongoing research activities. We have avoided to include any theory, these experiments are relying on, and we defer to the publications covering the theoretical issues.
