Optimal wind turbine placement via randomized optimization techniques

Abstract:

The main contribution of this paper is the development of a novel hybrid methodology so as to achieve optimal wind turbine turbine placement on a selected wind farm site. Earlier approaches are either hampered by the high number of decision variables, or they are restricted to heuristic methods, and hence do not provide any optimality guarantees. The proposed scheme merges genetic algorithm tools with Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods, in an attempt to identify optimal configurations. The performance of the developed method is demonstrated via an extensive simulation study, and is compared with the outcome of standard approaches based on genetic algorithms.
