Electrode Array Control for E ective FES

Abstract:

This group project is about testing several hydrogel- and electrode array- types in context of functional electrical stimulation, comparing them and nding the most suitable array{gel combination. The tests were con- ducted at four positions on the right forearm. The excitations were made with a four-channel muscle stimulator. For current control and data acquisition a graphical user interface (GUI) was used to interact with the stimulator and a physical rotary knob to control the intensity. In the experiments three currents were measured: beginning of muscle contraction (IMin), maximal possible contraction (IMax) and beginning of pain to the subject (IPain). Afterwards, the numeric values of these vari- ables were evaluated, plotted and compared. For the analysis comfort and control models have been developed in order to give an overview of all arrays/gels and their di erences.
