Abstract:

Stepper motors are a good choice for exact positioning tasks. Since they don't have brushes like DC motors do they can still reliably function after repetitive use. When the resolution of stepper motors is increased by means of microstepping and high speeds are demanded, steppers may start to lose steps or even stall and quit moving all together. Open loop schemes fail to notice these errors and the need for sensor feedback becomes obvious. Zribi presents a controller in theory which uses exact linearization [16]. The simulations show a clear superiority to open loop control.
