On the In uence of Filters on Performance of DC/AC Buck Converters; a Comparative Study

Abstract:

As the number of switched mode power converters connected to the grid increases it is necessary to smoothly integrate them in order to avoid instabilities and high stresses. To do so we need to improve the performance of the converters. The approach taken in this paper is to remove high frequency disturbances from the control loop. These disturbances are a direct result from the switching operation. To remove the disturbances we add a lter to the state measurements. The goal of this paper is to compare the performance of the converter with di erent state measurement lters. To achieve the goal we implemented a DC/AC buck converter in MATLAB and run various simulations with di erent lters. The lters we considered were a lowpass lter, a moving average lter, Butterworth lter and a Kalman lter. From the results of the simulations we draw the conclusion that the Kalman lter is more ecient to improve the performance of the converter than the linear lters. I
