RF-Signal Detection with Miniature RC Helicopters

In the field of search and rescue operations, the interest in autonomous vehicles has been growing more and more. The detection and tracking of the signal of interest is a central issue. In this work we consider to track a Radio Frequency (RF) signal. The goal of this semester thesis is to design a RF-detection system for autonomous Miniature RC Helicopters. In this project, the required RF-signal detection system was established and tested. The results of the measurement flights show the environment’s heavy influence on the signal strength. Due to the adjacent walls next to the test bed, reflexions and interferences cause strong distortions. Based on the learnings, further development steps are suggested.
