Abstract:

There are strong new demands on education in a technical university in Europe, articulated by different stakeholders. These can be summarized as a need for the development of knowledge in the respective field as well as methodological and social competencies. Several major changes are happening in university education in a very short time, for example: (1) The use of the World-Wide Web in education, (2) project-oriented approaches to education, (3) a new position for non-technical subjects in the education, (4) increased mobility, and (5) evaluation. The reaction of ETHZ to these changes is discussed in the paper.
