Model Based Power Optimisation of Wind Farms

This thesis explores the power optimisation of wind farms by considering the wake effects in the turbine control. The general formulation of a wind independent optimisation objective, which can also be adapted to address turbine placing problems, leads to optimal reference values for every wind turbine in the farm depending on its position and the wind direction. We present a turbine model and model predictive controller (MPC) to regulate the wind turbine to variable reference values. The performance is illustrated with the turbine simulator FAST and the wind farm simulator Aeolus SimWindFarm.
