Exploring strategies to control the power demand of a population of TCLs

Abstract:

This report provides a method founded on Markov chains and on the Chemical Master Equation which could be used to identify a model of a population of Thermostatically Controlled Loads (TCLs). The essay shows in a second moment a possible application of controlling the power demand of the identified model in order to track possible hypothetical scenarios of power production, forecasted for example from the energy market of a network of wind turbines. Particular attention will be given by inspecting the level of expected performance under applying a classical control method strategy (not inserting this problem in a model predictive context).
