Multi-agent surveillance system: 3D Simulation platform

The goal of this project was to construct a 3D simulation platform for the multiagent camera surveillance IfA laboratory at ETH in ETL I32, resembling as realistically as possible the actual setup. The simulation platform needed to be easy to use and manipulate in order to adapt to different test arrangements and allow for future changes to the setup. Another goal was for the platform to be used as a surveillance or tracking system for live experiments, where it can be connected to the sensors installed on the setup in order to record tracking data while experiments are running. Before the simulation could be used, a 3D representation of the room had to be created. This was done by first designing the platform using Siemens NX CAD software and then exporting it to the Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML) in Matlab, where it could be linked to a Matlab Simulink model and used to run the simulations. One of the main features of this project is the visualisation of the field of view of the cameras in the setup. It aids the user in quickly identifying any large errors in the system and gives a visual overview of how the algorithms are performing.
