Abstract:

(Slides of seminar talks on January 18, 23 (2001)) Fundamental results of functional analysis and important classes of operators are illustrated with various type of examples, which are adopted from linear algebra, functional analysis, and control theory of linear systems. In the slides, Part 1 covers the fundamental results on linear operator acting on Hilbert space and illustrates an alternative approach to LQ control based on appropriately defined function spaces; Part 2 covers the advanced results on singular value/vector of compact operators and illustrates their application to constrained LQ control problem for continuous-time systems.
