Cascade Structures: 'Polymerization' of Nonlinear Filters

Linear digital filters are amenable to much analysis via the principle of superposition. In attempting to analyze general nonlinear structures, we can only say that superposition no longer holds. This talk introduces algebraic category theory as a basis for analyzing nonlinear cascade structures, a class that includes various linear cascade structures, iterated nonlinear filters (e.g., iterated median filters), and other structures like artificial neural networks and fractional Fourier transforms.
