The RCopterX project aims at automatic control of a heterogeneous group of off-the-shelf miniature RC helicopters.

Project Context

This project covers a wide area of topics in automatic control, for instance:
  • 3D Image capturing with infra-red cameras
  • Modelling of the helicopter dynamics
  • Design of control schemes
  • Control implementations in a MatLab amd other languages
  • Practical implementation on the real hardware system

Project Goals

The students are introduced to the basics of image acquisition, image processing and 3D-tracking of objects as well as the aspects of real time application of algorithms. Further the students will gain practice in modelling, simulation and control of a real system. This project will also give the students the opportunity to implement and apply the developed methods and algorithms to real RC helicopters.

A team of students will be formed for the whole project, i.e. multiple students can apply and individual projects can be tailored to the particular interests. We offer Team Projects, Semester and Master Projects.
