Biographical Sketch:
Chairman, Technical Committee, CIGRE Graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique (1962) electrical engineer, diploma from the Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité (1967). From 1968 to 1984, André Merlin was Research-Engineer with the R&D Directorate of Electricité de France. He was in charge of the developing of decision-making tools in the area of power system planning and operation. From 1984 to 1986, he was Head of the Power System Control department of the Transmission Division at Electricité de France and headed the electricité de France Regional Centre for Transmission and Telecommunication in the Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne region from 1987 to 1989, became Deputy Director, then Director of the Transmission Division at Electricité de France from 1989 to 1992. He was appointed to the position of Senior Vice President of the Research and Development Directorate from March 1992 until June 1994. Since June 1994, he is Executive vice President, Director of Hydraulic and Conventional Thermal Generation, Power Transmission and Telecommunications, System Operation and the sales to large industrial customers at Electricité de France. Involvement with CIGRE : 1988-1994 Chairman of Study committee 39 "Power System Operation and Control" August 1996 Appointed Chairman of the CIGRE Technical Committee André Merlin is also Vice President of the SEE (French Society of Electrical and Electronical engineers). He is Fellow of the IEEE and was awarded the Medaille Blondel.
