CANCELLED Accident free driving - Turning The Vision Into Reality

"Accident free driving" is an important vision. Turning this vision into reality is a technological challenge of the future. Although it will never be possible to completely realize the vision of accident free driving, new integrated safety systems can help to prevent a lot of accidents, and they will contribute to make the effects of accidents less severe for all traffic participants involved. Thus, the development of a new generation of vehicle assistance systems will pave the way towards accident free driving. These new safety systems will possess the capability to minimize the possibility of human errors and thus mitigate the consequences of accidents or, if possible, eliminate accidents almost completely. Such integrated safety systems are able to optimally support the driver in routine driving tasks, they provide early and appropriate information and warning of impending danger, they adequately intervene in emergency situations, and they protect car occupants and other road users from injuries as well as possible. This presentation gives an overview of current research activities on enabling technologies for the development of integrated safety assistance systems and examples are highlighted.
