Noise and Vibration Control: Piezoelectric Shunting with a Negative Capacitor

Abstract:
Design and realization of vibration isolation and noise shielding systems will be presented. In these systems, piezoelectric elements, i.e. an actuator and curved membranes, mediate interaction between mechanical structure or acoustic field and an analogue negative capacitor. In theory, the total noise or vibration transmission shielding through the piezoelectric element which is connected to the properly adjusted negative capacitor can be achieved. Practical aspects of the systems realization, i.e. sensitivity and stability, and the design of the adaptive control will be presented.
