Robust Control of thruster driven spacecraft formations

Abstract:
Thruster driven satellite formations experience uncertainties due to misalignment, misplacement and incorrect strength of each thruster element. A 12-thruster arrangement is presented in such a way to decouple the position and attitude control objectives and an explicit uncertainty parameterization for each thruster element is introduced. Structured singular values determine the robustness margins of a nominal Linear Quadratic Gaussian controller in terms of allowable tolerances for the thruster uncertainties. The results, which in some cases are expectedly conservative, are verfied through extensive Monte-Carlo simulations.
