Online Teaching Platform
All organisational matters will be dealt through the online platform Piazza, there you will find the lecture notes, the exercises with their solutions and the information about the office hours and the teaching assistants.
Using the Piazza platform you will be able to ask questions about the exercises or the lectures which can be answered by the assistants, the professor or even by your fellow classmates. We strongly encourage your participation in the discussions and forums in order to improve your understanding of the material.
The course grade is based on a midterm examination (30%) and a final examination (70%). The final examination is held the week after the last lecture.

The lectures will be video-taped. The link for the lecture podcasts will be active from the beginning of the semester.
Below you can find slides and other lecture material. The slides are currently being revised and the date of the latest revision is shown. Those dating from last year will only approximately match the content of the lectures, so check for updates just before the lecture.
If you find errors or typographical mistakes in the slides please let Prof. Smith know so that corrections can be made and posted here.

In each exercise session, one problem set is assigned with a preliminary discussion and will be posted on the Piazza platform. The problem sets are due one week after they have been assigned, they will be corrected by the teaching assistant.

The textbook will be sold on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 9:00 in front of HG E 1.2 by the ETH Store. The price is CHF 57 with student ID. In the last exercise session, we will show a video of the Gunter Stein lecture. There is also a paper that goes with it.
