Research area

My research focuses on game theory, operator theory and distributed optimization for studying and solving coordination, decision and control problems that arise in complex network systems, such as power grids, communication and transportation networks. While multi-agent optimization is an established methodology for cooperative decision makers, a paradigm shift is necessary to ensure safe and efficient operation of large-scale network systems with possibly noncooperative or self-interested agents. With this aim, I embrace game theory, monotone operator theory and systems theory to design automated computational methods for solving coordination, decision and control problems in modern large-scale network systems.

Giuseppe Belgioioso is a postdoctoral researcher at the Automatic Control Laboratory at ETH Zürich since September 2020, working with Prof. Florian Dörfler. He obtained the PhD degree in Automatic Control at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), The Netherlands, under the supervision of Prof. Sergio Grammatico (TU Delft). He received the bachelor's degree in Information Engineering in September 2012 and the master's degree (summa cum laude) in Automatic Control Engineering in April 2015, both at the University of Padova, Italy. In 2015, he was also a Research Scientist (Assegnista) at the Automatic Control Group (Automatica), University of Padova, Italy, where he worked with Prof. Angelo Cenedese. In 2019, he visited the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering (ECEE) at Arizona State University (ASU), USA, where he was hosted by Prof. Angelia Nedić.
