Research area

The modern power system has a massive integration of renewables (photovoltaics, wind generations, etc.), which totally changes the system dynamics and poses great challenges for system operations. On the other hand, renewables are flexible power-electronic devices with high controllability, which, if properly controlled, have the potential to make the modern power system more resilient and stable. Under such backgrounds, my research interests are centered around stability analysis and control design of power systems with high-penetration renewables.

  • I explore the interaction between power-electronic devices and the power grid and try to explain how the control in the devices result in instabilities under different power grid conditions.
  • I use advanced control techniques to improve the stability of renewables and make them robust against changes in the power grid.
  • The integration of power-electronic devices dramatically increases the order of the system, and the system becomes so complicated that its model cannot be obtained anymore in practice. Hence, I also research on data-driven control which aims at performing optimal control only by collecting input/output data from the system.

I am a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich since September 2020, working in the Automatic Control Laboratory with Professor Florian Dörfler. I received my Ph.D. degree in College of Electrical Engineering at Zhejiang University in 2020, supervised by Prof. Huanhai Xin, and a B. Eng. degree from Zhejiang University in 2015. From 2018 to 2019, I was a visiting scientist at the Automatic Control Laboratory at ETH Zurich. My research interests include power system stability, control of power electronics, and data-driven control.
