We are almost continuously looking for outstanding graduate students and post-doctoral researchers in all areas of activity at the institute. FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Interested candidates are asked to send the following in their application:

  • A Curriculum Vitae;
  • A statement of objectives and research interests (1-2 pages);
  • Transcripts of undergraduate and Masters coursework;
  • The (expected) date that you will be available to start; and
  • The names and addresses of at least three people we may contact as references.

Please note that a Master's degree from a recognized university is a prerequisite for enrolling in the Doctoral programme at ETH. Current Master's degree students are encouraged to apply 3 to 6 months before the expected completion of their Master's degree requirements.

  • The everyday-language at the Automatic Control Laboratory is English.
  • The basic undergraduate courses at ETH are taught in German, although an increasing number of undergraduate courses are taught in English. All of our Masters and Ph.D. level courses are taught in English. The official policy of the ETH administration is to increase the use of English in education.
  • The official language in Zürich and at ETH is German. The job candidate is not expected to know German. However, it is recommended that s/he acquires some knowledge of German during the first couple of years of residence - not the least for social reasons.
